Ben Brown rose to prominence in 2015 when he was dubbed as the best wicket-keeper batsman in the country. Sussex were relegated to Division 2, but the new head coach, Mark Davis was full of praise for the keeper-batsman and hailed him as ‘’a natural leader’’

A right-handed keeper-batsman, Brown came through the Sussex youth setup and played U-19 cricket for England in 2006 and made his county debut the following summer.

In 2010, Brown scored a terrific century for Sussex against Derbyshire in just his seventh first-class game.

In a surprise turn of events, Brown was made the Sussex captain mid-way in the 2016 County season. He didn’t disappoint the team management and averaged more than 50 in the Championship, including an unbeaten 159 against Glamorgan.

Jason Gillespie arrived at Sussex as their new head coach in 2017 and Brown became an integral part of his plans. The elegant batter topped the averages as Sussex’s promotion challenge only faded in September.

Brown had another impressive season in 2019, despite an underwhelming performance by the club.

Browns’ leadership ability was witnessed even before he was made the permanent skipper of the county side. His ability to perform under pressure was also applauded by Jason Gillespie, who was the head coach of Sussex till 2020.
