Player Bio

Being born to a cricketing family, Hayden Walsh started playing cricket from a very young age in the US. Born and raised in the US, he is a left-handed batsman and a part-time right-arm leg-break bowler.

Walsh started playing cricket for Leeward Volcanoes in his initial days. Performing well at the domestic level, Walsh Jr. couldn't break it to the national side. Due to the presence of Samuel Badree and Devendra Bishoo, he was always overlooked and never caught the selector’s eye.

In his debut season in the 2011-12 Regional Four Day Competition, Walsh had a breakthrough season. In the third match against Trinidad and Tobago, he ended up with figures of 4/47 which included wickets of West Indies International players like Jason Mohammad and Rayad Emrit. Subsequently, in the next season, he proved his skills with the bat scoring his highest first-class score of 86 against Jamaica.

He first came to the limelight during the 2018 CPL where he was brought in as a replacement. His all-round threat to the opponents earned him a contract for the following year’s CPL as well when he was picked by Barbados Trident mid-season. Though he missed out on the initial few games, he was still the leading wicket-taker in the competition and that earned him a national call-up in the West Indian squad for the series against Afghanistan in November 2019. Already made his debut for the United States against the UAE in the T20I series and ODI against Papua New Guinea, he didn’t hesitate much to play for the Men in Maroon.

On 6th November, Walsh made his ODI debut against Afghanistan and became the 14th cricketer to represent two international teams. He bowled an economical spell and also picked a wicket on his debut in a resounding victory and in the subsequent month he made his T20I debut against Afghanistan. In December 2020, he was on the road to make his Test debut against Bangladesh but after testing positive for Covid-19, he was dropped out of the squad.

Walsh Jr has been putting in a lot of work in the nets working alongside assistant coach Andre Coley to get the best variations and combinations working for the series against New Zealand. Being a premier leg spinner for the Men in Maroon, Hayden Walsh hopes to be the X-factor in the team ahead of the upcoming 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.
