Bio
Mohammad Saif Hassan is a compact-looking batsman who just bats and bats and bats. Born in Dhaka, he first garnered attention when he became the youngest Bangladesh player to score a first-class double century, in the 2018-19 season. Hassan was always a young prodigy, started representing Bangladesh U-19 team in 2015. The Dhaka-born has played two Junior World Cups, in 2016 and 2018, and led his country during the latter tournament.
The young prodigy has been playing domestic cricket since the age of 16. He made his first-class debut for Dhaka Metropolis during the 2014-15 National Cricket League. Later that season, the batter made his List-A and T20 debut as well. However, the youngster took a major leap at the international level, when he scored a hundred against Sri Lanka A and a double ton in a first-class game, within a gap of five days. That was enough for Hassan to impress the national selectors, Hassan was picked in the Test squad for the India series, before getting ruled out due to split webbing.
A year later, in 2020, the youngster played his maiden Test match against Pakistan at Rawalpindi, to score a duck and 16 on debut. Later that year, he played a couple of games more but could not showcase his batting potential on the highest level. In July that year, the young batter was picked in the squad for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.
It's still early days for Hassan at international cricket, but the domestic numbers tell, he has the potential to be a future superstar if handled with care. However, for the moment, Hassan is behind Shadman Islam in the race to become an opening partner for Tamim Iqbal.
