Player Bio

A young fearless opener, Gareth Delany is known for his six-hitting abilities with a distinctive backlift and also bowls useful leg breaks. Delany is a quick learner and his leg-spin is still a work in progress.

Delany first came into prominence in his maiden T20I Triangular series against Zimbabwe and Scotland. The Dublin-born all-rounder made his debut against Zimbabwe on July 12th, 2019 but failed to create an impact with either bat or bowl on his debut. However, in his second T20I fixture against Scotland, he smacked his maiden T20I fifty and also bagged two wickets making headlines.

Going into the 2020 T20 World Cup qualifiers, Delany was in full flow representing the Irish national team and ended the tournament being the third-highest run-getter which saw Ireland finishing third in the points table and automatically qualifying for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.

By his own admission, the batting allrounder has a lot to improve in the 50-over format and he is yet unsure of his role in ODIs. Belonging from a family of cricketers, Delany is well-placed to make these kinds of adjustments and revamp himself as a full-fledged all-rounder to become a regular in the Irish national team.
