Melbourne Stars continued their purple patch after beating Renegades by 6 wickets in Melbourne on Sunday, 17 January. Chasing 151 in 20 overs, Stars went over the line in the final over. Marcus Stoinis and Nick Larkin scored 43 each while captain Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for 20.

Kane Richardson picked up a couple of wickets for Renegades while Will Sutherland Peter Hatzoglou had a wicket apiece.

Earlier, Renegades didn’t have a great start to the proceedings after losing Aaron Finch for a duck. But Shaun Marsh and Sam Harper steadied the ship and stitched a stand of 78 runs for the second wicket before Marsh departed for 24. Harper went on to score 63.

Renegades lost wickets at regular intervals but Mackenzie Harvey scored a 17-ball 29 before getting out to Liam Hatcher. They were eventually bundled out for 150. Hatcher bagged a three-for during the course.

Hatcher who was also adjudged man of the match for his three-fer expressed his delight. “Very happy with that one. Got over the line. The boys played really well and the coaching staff has been brilliant. Here you can use the wicket a lot more. We have got nothing to lose. It is nice to get a few wickets. Very happy to be a part of a successful team. I love getting into a contest.”

Stars are now sitting at number three in the points table with 23 points from 11 matches. Renegades on the other hand are at the bottom of the points table and have a couple of wins and 9 points in their kitty.
