Chennai Super Kings' batting coach Micheal Hussey believes that he has found the answer to a never-ending debate of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's batting position that has raged the social media for the last couple of years.
Speaking to the New Indian Express on Friday, 14 August, the former Australia international loving dubbed as Mr Cricket stated that Dhoni should ideally bat at number 4 but everyone in the middle order has to adapt to the situation.
“No. 4 is ideal for MS Dhoni to bat, but everyone in the middle-order will need to adapt as per the situation. Not sure yet what the make-up of the team will be,” said Hussey.
Hussey added that they were focusing on the preparations at the moment and the goal was to get to the ground and work hard.
“Just get in there (ground) and do the hard work. We are lucky to have a lot of experienced players in our ranks who know their game well. They also know what they need to prepare and how to be ready for the task,” Hussey added.
On questioned about if batting was the more stronger skillset of the current unit, Hussey said that they have a well-balanced team and that they cover all the required departments.
“Of course, batting is our strength, but I feel we have a well-balanced team that covers all the skill sets well. [It’s] not really that easy as everybody thinks. Every player will have to go there and adapt to the conditions," he added.
MS Dhoni has been missing in action since the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, but if rumours and video evidence are to be believed, Dhoni has been training hard for the Indian Premier League scheduled to begin on September 19.
