The stage is set for the classic ‘Roses rivalry’ in the County Championship Division I as Lancashire will travel to Leeds to take on their arch-rivals, Yorkshire, at the Headingley Stadium, Leeds.

Both the teams have been unbeaten in the four matches they have featured in. However, Lancashire sit at the third position on the points table, with two wins and an equal number of draws. On the other hand, Yorkshire have a solo win under their belt with three draws and occupies the fourth place.

Yorkshire played out a draw in their last game against Essex at Chelmsford, where they missed the services of three pacers, Haris Rauf, Matthew Fisher and Ben Coad, on account of injuries. It did not augur well as the bowling lineup found no answers to Sir Alastair Cook’s class, who notched up centuries in both innings. Fisher and Coad are set to miss the home game against Lancashire too. However, Rauf, who has been the joint highest wicket-taker for his team, is likely to be available for selection.

On the batting front, young Harry Brook has been the star performer for the Steven Patterson-led side. He has amassed 635 runs in six innings and is making his case stronger for selection on the national side. Dawid Malan has been equally impressive. And with the addition of former England Test skipper Joe Root into the XI, Yorkshire boast an enviable batting prowess.

To counter a formidable batting lineup, Lancashire has the likes of James Anderson, Hasan Ali and Saqib Mahmood in their ranks. Ali is ruling Division I with 24 wickets to his name in eight innings. Leg-spinner Matthew Parkinson has also been in fine form, with 17 dismissals to his name.
