Delhi Capitals have roped in Proteas pacer Anrich Nortje as a replacement for Chris Woakes for the upcoming IPL 2020. The England all-rounder decided to give the cash-rich tournament a miss as he wants to stay fresh for the international calendar.
However, the IPL got postponed and the first-leg of English summer is also nearing its end. But Woakes won’t be able to join as he has already been replaced. It took the Delhi-franchise almost five months to find a player with similar credentials. And now, they have finally picked the South Africa bowler.
"I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season," Nortje said.
Nortje made his first international appearance against India last year. So far, he has played 6 Tests, 7 ODIs and 3 T20Is, picking a total of 35 international wickets. Interestingly, the Kolkata Knight Riders had signed the pacer for the 2019 season but a freak shoulder injury ruled him out of the circuit.
Though, he represented Cape Town Blitz last year. The 26-year-old was set to feature in the CPL but he failed to make his travel arrangements on time, which resulted in him missing the tournament. The IPL will commence on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.
