Ahead of the mega auctions scheduled to be held in December 2021, reports have emerged that the India Premier League might allow up to four retentions for individual teams.

The mega auctions are going to be a little different this year with two additional teams being included in the IPL. It has been reported by Cricbuzz that the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), the controlling authority for the league, might only allow franchises to retain a maximum of 3 Indian players and 2 foreign players.

However, it has been made clear that no franchise can retain more than four of its existing cricketers. It is unlikely that there will be any Right To Match (RTM) option this year.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that there have been new enquiries to the BCCI about the buying of an IPL team which has forced the board to postpone the sale of Invitiation to Tender by 10 days. It was earlier scheduled to happen on 10 October.

The teams are likely to be from Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
